New committee introduction

New committee introduction

In light of the recent committee changes, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves as your new Committee Team:

  • Chair Person - Leigh Painter

Leigh has taken over role as Chairperson having been vice-chair for the last year as she is passionate about keeping the charity running. Jacks diagnosis of T1D in 2016 aged 6 years, had a devastating impact on their family. Jack is now aged 9 and Leigh dedicates her time to supporting other families and is keen to offer more opportunities and support through SnackPack.

  • Vice Chair - Anna Roberts

Anna has stepped up in her role as Vice Chair to support Leigh in keeping SnackPack running. She has been a regular committee member since her 15 year old son Haydn was diagnosed with T1D in 2015. She works in retail.

  • Secretary - Claire Potts

Claire has been evolving in her role as Secretary over the last year. She is mum to Olivia aged 11 who was diagnosed with T1D two years ago and works in admin for the NHS at the Hospital.

  • Treasurer – Chris Southwell

The Exeter Snack Pack Group act on behalf of Diabetes UK, a charity registered in England and Wales (no. 215199) and in Scotland (no. SC039136). The group provides vital support for local children living with Type 1, and their families, and relies entirely on fundraised income and donations to remain open. Donations made to the group will fund group running costs, group activities or events which benefit local families, or can be put towards the core work of Diabetes UK including funding life changing research.

The committee makes decisions on how we spend our funds by listening to our members to hear what they want us to do and what they feel is most needed. For example, this year we are going to be helping to fund Carbs and Cals books to be given to newly diagnosed families by the paediatric team at the hospital. This will be alongside organising events and creating as many opportunities as possible for families to meet others and for children to spend time with others like them, living with Type 1.

In order for us to continue this work going forwards, we would really appreciate any support from families to help with all of our fundraising efforts. Last year, fundraisers included a non-uniform day at a local high school, cake sales at school & work places, a sponsored ultra-marathon, a reflexology event to name but a few. A huge thank you to all involved! These efforts enabled us to offer a free session at IBounce and subsidised places for 100 people at the Train to Christmas Town Event. With your help in fundraising & ideas, we hope to organise many more events in 2020 and beyond! Please help us to achieve this - we appreciate that we all have demands on our time but we are more than happy to support you with organising any fundraising event! The more fundraising that we do, the more events and activities we can fund.

Likewise, if anyone would like to get involved with the committee, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Whether you have been a member of SnackPack for many years or have only recently been diagnosed, everyone is very welcome to get involved.

We look forward to working with you all this year, to maximise the benefits of SnackPack for your Type 1 Heroes and your families xx
